What is HERA? â
HERA is a hybrid virtual reality application developed specifically for use in academic research and teaching. It enables exploration and interaction with three-dimensional historical environments. It is an in-house development of the Bonn Center for Digital Humanities and was built using Unreal Engine 5.5.
Key Features â
- Hybrid Use: Seamless transition between 2D and VR modes.
- Learning Worlds: Integration of historical monuments, such as the virtual tour of the Romanesque church in Schwarzrheindorf, or the virtual museum.
- Collaboration: Joint explorations in multiplayer mode.
- Sketchfab Integration: Easy loading and placement of 3D models directly from the BCDH repository on Sketchfab. This allows 3D models created within BCDH projects to be integrated directly into the VR application.
- Server Setup: Setting up the server software is relatively simple and can be done on a standard computer.
